Women have had impressive gains in education and the workplace for over 50 years. Despite these significant gains men continue to outnumber women in leadership roles and power positions. When it comes to Black women the numbers are even more alarming. Black women have battled for leadership roles for decades and today this phenomenon has not changed. Black women are largely underrepresented in leadership roles and positions across the globe. The “glass cliff” phenomenon depicts that Black women are often hired or promoted to leadership roles when companies face crises, despite their credentials. There is also the continued battle for equal pay for equal work. These phenomena contribute to the feminization and juvenilization of poverty.

Despite these encounters, Black Women are “Breaking Barriers" as they position themselves in leadership roles. This book depicts the experiences of seven dynamic women who share their impactful stories on challenges and success towards their achievements while leaving advice and recommendations for future Black women leaders.
